Crazy Lace Agate Seashell Cabochon, 34x34.5mm 46.65ct

Beige crazy lace agate cabochon is carved and polished in the shape of a cockle shell. While the top is carved, the back is smooth and flat. Fascinating bands of white and tan are clearly visible on both sides. Small pits, cracks, and rough spots in the carving are a result of the natural properties of the stone and lends a hint of realism to the stylized piece. Roughly triangular, stone measures approximately 34x34.5mm and 9.5mm thick at the center of the dome. A small, half-drilled hole (approximately 1mm diameter and 6mm deep) can be used for a finding or hidden by a setting or wire wrapping. The stone has slight damage in the form of notches at the hole, either from a mis-drill or a broken finding (see photos).  

Salvaged vintage stones from the 1990's or before were in a large lot of semiprecious gems and may have been used in a setting. There is some shallow scratching on the back, possibly from the removal of findings and/or being banged about in long-term storage and mixed with other stones.
