Unusual topaz glass cabochons are vintage lampwork from Japan. Swirls and stripes of white in the golden yellow glass mimic natural quartz. Asymmetric nuggets are unfoiled and have a flat back. The lengthwise channel on the front and back of these vintage stones is designed for wire wrapping (the final photo shows this type of stone with a simple wrap). It's very subtle, so stones can also be used in bezel and prong settings. You will receive 12 stones.
Available in either 15x12mm or 18x15mm sizes.
Original wrappers with the Cherry Brand seal are only available for orders of 18 18x15mm stones. Alas, the paper wrappers for the smaller stones have disintegrated!
Artisans of Osaka's glass districts have been hand making glass since the 3rd century. Cherry Brand beads and stones were created only during the American occupation of Japan after World War II. The artisans belong to this collective from 1945-1952 were full-time rice farmers. They set up flameworking stations at their homes so that they could develop their glasswork skills. After their farming chores were done for the day, they worked into the night creating these lovely little works of art.
