I used the prompts for July 9 (scraps) and July 10 (thread) for this 2-page spread. If you recall, I had clipped and folded the last page of the previous spread. It made a full-page pocket a little less bulky, but there was another reason for the theatrics. There was pretty little decoration in the corner that didn't match the spread and I wanted to use it elsewhere. A year or so ago, a pre-made junk journal migrated into my stash. It wasn't hideous, but it just wasn't my style. So... I did a bit of rehabbing. I added franken-paper extensions, glued some pages together, folded others. It looked better, but there was a ton of blank space (mostly white). So, I used it for this year's #JunkJournalJanuary. Since I rarely use more than a page for a prompt and like to combine them if I'm making a spread, there more than enough pages for #JunkJournalJuly.
So... here's what went into this spread. On the first page, I added some more neutral colored scraps and pattern tissue to the book page scraps that were already at the top. Since I wanted the page to coordinate with its neighbor, I did a bit of watercolor mark-making on a scrap page from a botanical book. While the framed bird doesn't look particularly scrappy, the frame is a die cutting scrap, the background is a scrap of dictionary page that was in my scrap bin, and the "always" was cut from another piece in the scrap bin. Since I'm always using scraps, it's an appropriate word for this spread. I used a coffee-spattered scrap to make an angled tuck point at the bottom of the page and hand-stitched it with green thread. It's not the best job, but the rustic look goes with the scrap theme. I added a label (made of scraps, of course) to the bottom of the tuck spot. If the journaling card looks familiar, it's because you saw a much larger version for July 4. I wasn't really happy with the journal card I had made (and photographed), so cut it in half and added a few bits to make two smaller cards that I like much better. This card got the addition of a button die cut from a scrap of foiled cardstock. I sewed it onto the card with dark blue thread, leaving the tails long to call attention to the next day's theme: "thread".
Although I have a "before" picture of this page, it's enough to say that there was a page pocket and it had magenta flowers. I pulled it off and replaced it with a fold-out from an embellishment kit included with the journal. I replaced the tab with something scrappier and added a strip from the watercolor made on Day 9. A scrap of handmade paper covers the old glue line from the pocket I pulled off. I glued only the two sides of the fold-out to the page, so it also functions as a pocket. A torn piece from the #JunkJournalJuly printables disguises another spot of problematic color, this time at the top of the page. To make the page label, I added another watercolor strip below the one piece of of original decor I wanted to keep, found a blob of threads at the bottom of my fabric bin, and glued across it to the page with the prompt of the day. My page of prompts is now looking very scrappy!
